Welcome to the Reaching for Gold website

We are currently updating this website for the 2010/11 competition, so keep checking back to see the latest information!

Reaching for Gold is all about trying your hardest and aiming for the top and at the same time, it is a practical opportunity to improve the world you live in! Your group could be mentored by a top business professional to develop your idea and get some hi-tech prizes along the way. If you can successfully pitch your idea to a panel of judges (with help from your corporate mentor) you could win money towards your project – the chance to make it into a reality!

If you live in the South East of England, are aged 14-19 this is the opportunity you do not want to miss.

Applications must be received by 29th November 2010, so start thinking or for more information click here.

So what is Reaching for Gold?

Reaching for Gold is a South East competition designed to encourage innovative ideas from groups of young people that can make a practical difference to society in the areas of Youth, Community and Innovative Access. It is designed for teams of up to ten 14-19 year olds, and is particularly targeted at those living or working with disadvantage or disability.

Each successful team of young people through to stage 2 will be supported by voluntary and corporate sector mentors, faciliated by an enabling package of prizes, to work towards an event at St George's House, Windsor Castle - one of the region's most high profile venues. We have developed a great prize package for all of the finalists, with the top three winning cash towards their project.

Reaching for Gold has been developed by SEEDA and members of the Corporate Cabinet, supported by Groundwork, The Prince's Trust and AbilityNet. The idea for Reaching for Gold comes from the regional programme ‘Create, Compete, Collaborate’ which has the aim that "Every young person born after 1983 will have the chance to Create, Compete or Collaborate with another young person in another country" between now and 2012.
